John III Ducas (Vatatzes). Emperor of Nicaea, 1222-1254. AV Hyperpyron (4.55 g, 6h). Magnesia mint. Struck circa 1232-54. Christ Pantokrator enthroned facing; • to right / John, wearing loros and holding labarum and akakia, standing facing and being crowned and blessed by the Theotokos. DOC 6b; SB 2073. Good VF, lightly toned, four scatches at 9 o’clock and die shift on obverse, areas of slight roughness and flat strike.
