OSTROGOTHS. Theoderic. 493-526. AV Tremissis (1.48 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck in the name of Anastasius I, circa AD 493-518. D N ANASTA SIVS PP AVC, pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / VICTORIA AVCVSTORVM, Victory standing facing, head left, on globe, holding wreath in right hand, globus cruciger in left; stars flanking; COMOB. COI 14 var. (PF not PP); MEC 115 var. (same). VF, slightly weak strike in centers. Rare variety.
The legend with PP typically occurs at the other Italian mints for this issue, but this specimen lacks the requisite subsidiary symbols that should be present for these mints. Also, the style is more similar to the issues attributed to Rome.
