NEAR EASTERN. Northern Syria. Terracotta and Bronze Syro-Hittite Fertility Figurines. 2nd millennium BC. Circa 1700 BC. Terracotta figurine of a fertility goddess, wearing diadem and ornament around neck. Columnar body. Pale grey clay. Height: 14.3cm // 1500-1200 BC. Bronze figurine of a fertility goddess, holding one arm directly below breasts and one to chest. Height: 4.6cm (without mount). Cf. L. Badre, Les figurines anthropomorphes en terre cuite à l'Âge du Bronze en Syrie (Paris, 1981), pl. 1, 10, and 62-3 (for types). Fine condition, with earthen deposits. Head of terracotta figure broken and repaired.
