SPAIN, Reino de España. Felipe IV el Grande. 1621-1665. AR 8 Reales (21.63 g, 6h). Madrid mint. Dated 1642. Crowned arms of Philip; crowned B to left (barely visible) / Arms of Spain; lion in 1st and 3rd quarters, castle in 2nd and 4th. ME 6355 var. (arms on reverse); Calicó y Trigo 245 var. (same). VF, toned, clear date. Apparently unpublished variety with opposite arrangement of symbols on the arms of Spain.

Calicó y Trigo 268 notes only one similar coat-of-arms, on a 1624 8 Reales from Segovia mint (see WAG 46, lot 3734, for an example). Peus 394, lot 1222, a 1628 8 Reales from Santa Fe de Bogotà mint, also has this rare variety of arms.
