IRON AGE. Thraco-Macedonian region. FE Sword. 10th-8th centuries BC. Naue Type II sword with undecorated leaf-shaped blade. Flanged hilt with three rivets and notched termination. Length: 53.5cm. Good condition, rough corroded surfaces.
This sword type, the dominant type from Europe to the Near East for centuries, takes its name from Julius Naue, who classified them in his seminal work Die vorrömischen Schwerter aus Kupfer, Bronze und Eisen (Munich, 1903).
