ROMAN. Æ Furniture Fitting. 1st-2nd centuries AD. Socketed furniture fitting with a terminal protome of Silenus. Bearded and balding bust, wearing wreath of ivy and flowers, set on base with ogee anterior molding. Hollow cast head modeled in the round, turned slightly right in a melancholy gaze. Height: 10.5cm. Dark green patina with patches of red and brown. Some damage to the socket, but highly artistic bust in choice state of preservation.
