Sold for $360. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

MESOPOTAMIA, Carrhae. Elagabalus. AD 218-222. Æ 15mm (2.57 g, 5h). Laureate head right / Crescent set on small filleted globe, rosette of seven pellets within crescent. Cf. BMC 14 (Caracalla); SNG Copenhagen -. VF, dark green patina under thick earthen deposits.

From the J.S. Wagner Collection.

Neither BMC nor SNG Copenhagen list any coins of Elagabalus from Carrhae. A coin in BMC similar to this and the previous lot is assigned to Caracalla, but the portrait features more closely resemble Elagabalus.
