IONIA, Smyrna. Britannicus(?). AD 41-55. Æ 16mm (4.00 g, 1h). Philistos and Eikadios, magistrates. Struck circa AD 50-54. Bare-headed and draped bust right / Nike advancing right, carrying trophy over shoulder. RPC 2476 (Nero); SNG Copenhagen 1351; SNG von Aulock 7995. Near VF, green-brown patina, a little rough.
From the D. Alighieri Collection.
The authors of RPC dispute Klose's identification of the head on this coin as Britannicus, favoring instead an identification of Nero. Without an inscription, either could be a possibility.
