SICILY, Syracuse. Second Democracy. 466-405 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.36 g, 1h). Struck circa 440-430 BC. Charioteer, holding kentron in right hand and reins in both, driving fast quadriga left; above, Nike flying right, crowning charioteer with open wreath; in exergue, ketos left / Diademed head of Arethusa right, wearing necklace, hair drawn up into a korymbos; four dolphins and ΣYPAKOΣI-ON around. Boehringer series XVIII, 604 (V296/R410); SNG ANS 198 (same obv. die); BMC 104 (same dies); Jameson 775 (same dies); Nanteuil 343 (same dies); Weber 1588 (same dies). Near EF, toned, underlying luster, minor mark on neck of Arethusa.
