CRUSADERS, Venetians in the Levant. Two Pale AV Ducats. Imitating Venice. Uncertain mint. Later ‘K Series’, struck in the name of Andrea Dandolo, 1344-1354. Both coins: St. Mark standing right, holding Gospels and presenting flag to Doge kneeling left / Christ standing facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels, surrounded by elliptical halo containing four stars to left, five to right. Lot includes the following varieties: (3.44 g). S/H/V/Є/H/Є/T/I/I D/V/+ ΛZDK D • Λ • IDVLO; flag type 9 var. (no pellet), strange variety with letters ‘V’ tilted and strange crescent shape at bottom left of flag pole / • SIT T +PЄ DΛT G TV • KSIS ISTЄ DVЄΛVT • (K retrograde), Christ appears to have four eyes and additional star in field (10 total). // (3.52 g).
