CRUSADERS, Venetians in the Levant. AV Ducat (3.49 g, 9h). Imitating Venice. Uncertain mint. Struck in the name of Andrea Dandolo, 1367-1382. S/M/V/Є/И/T/I D/V/+DVR QT ΛRCOO (last D retrograde), St. Mark standing right, holding Gospels and presenting flag (type 3) to Doge kneeling left / • T • T +PC +ΛTQ TV • OISISTC DVPΛT • (S's and last P retrograde), Christ standing facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels, surrounded by elliptical halo containing four stars to left, five to right. Cf. CNI VII 50; Ives -; Schlumberger -; Gamberini -. VF. Highly stylized. Very rare.
