CRUSADERS, Venetians in the Levant. AV Ducat (3.48 g, 9h). Imitating Venice. Uncertain mint. Struck in the name of Andrea Griti, 1523-1539. S/M/V/Є/N/Є/T/I D/V/+ ΛND´ GRITI, St. Mark standing right, holding Gospels and presenting flag (uncertain type) to Doge kneeling left; exergual line below / SIT T XPЄ DΛ´TO TV RЄGIS ISTЄ DVC, Christ standing facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels, surrounded by elliptical halo containing four stars to left, four to right; pellet above Christ. Cf. CNI VII 297; Ives -; Schlumberger -; Gamberini -. Good VF. Struck on a broad flan with dies of attractive style. Rare.
