CRUSADERS, Venetians in the Levant. Three AV Ducats. Imitating Venice. Uncertain mint. All coins: St. Mark standing right, holding Gospels and presenting flag to Doge kneeling left; exergual line below / Christ standing facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels, surrounded by elliptical halo containing stars. Lot includes the following varieties: Uncertain Doge. Circa early 15th Century. Fourrée Imitation Ducat (3.10 g). DAWEBNAT (D and B retrograde, T inverted), D/V, NA (A inverted) XOMEDV, crudely styled St. Mark and Doge / [...]XP(?)BMVTD LVRAMEBWD[...] (L inverted and retrograde; A inverted), very crude figure within double elliptical halo of stars and pellets. Pierced twice and plugged // AV Ducat (3.39 g). Struck in the name of Ludovico Manin. 1789-1797. Struck circa early to mid 19th Century. Essentially correct design with slightly abstracted art (these pieces turn up in collections from India, or including Indian imitations). Lot also includes: Brass jewelry imitation 2 Ducat (4.95 g). Struck in the name of Alvise Mocenigo II. Possibly cast. CNG 61, 2501 var. (same dies, but struck in silver); UBS 69, 3023 var. (same dies, but struck in gold). Ives -; cf.
