INDIA, Kushan Empire. Huvishka. Circa AD 152-192. AV Dinar (21mm, 7.98 g, 1h). Mint I (A). Nimbate, crowned, and diademed bust left on clouds, holding mace scepter and filleted spear / ΦAPPO, Pharro standing facing, head left, flames at shoulders, extending right hand in benediction, left hand on sword hilt; tamgha to left. MK -; Donum Burns - ; MACW -. VF, minor red earthen deposits. Possibly an unrecorded variety.
Pharro was associated with Khvareno, the Iranian personification of the glory and legitimacy of kings. The winged petasos, caduceus, and purse he is sometimes shown with additionally links him to Hermes-Mercury.
While there are published Huvishka issues depicting Pharro extending his right hand in benediction (cf. MK 206, where he holds a scepter in his left) and placing his left hand on the hilt of his sword (cf. MK 203, where he holds flames in his extended right hand), the combination of these two features is perhaps unrecorded.
