MACEDON, Neapolis. Circa 525-450 BC. AR Obol (8mm, 1.00 g). Facing gorgoneion / Quadripartite incuse square. Klein 155; Rosen (Münzen und Medaillen 72) 385. VF for type, minor porosity.
This style of the gorgoneion, exhibiting a faint smile and with hair composed of a series of pellets, is a far cry from the fierce, grotesque heads normally encountered on issues of Neapolis.
