207, Lot: 275. Estimate $100.
Sold for $228. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

HUNNIC TRIBES, Alchon Huns. Khingila. Circa AD 440-490. BI Drachm (23mm, 3.16 g, 9h). Uncertain mint. Crowned and diademed bust right, wearing earring and necklace; flower with curved stem to right / Fire altar with attendants (of which only the base of the altar and feet of the altar attendants are visible). Alram, Alchon -; Göbl, Dokumente Em. 104 (same obv. die). VF, rough, grainy surfaces. Extremely rare.

Göbl cites only one specimen for his Emission 104, which he notes was acquired in Kabul. He identifies the object before the bust as a variation of Symbol 23 found on Emission 94 (which features a much finer, more naturalistic representation of a flower).
