PHOENICIA, Ake-Ptolemais. 2nd century BC. Æ 16mm (3.70 g, 1h). Dated SE 204 (109/8 BC). Laureate head of Zeus right / Tyche standing left on prow, holding aphlaston and trident; monogram and to left, L ΔΣ (date) right. Kadman, Akko -; Rosenberger -; SNG Copenhagen -. Good VF, dark gray-green patina with earthen highlights.


Issues of this type are normally dated to the Caesarean Era, years 5, 23 and 27 are recorded by Kadman. This coin is dated to year 204, which in the Caesarean Era would be 156/7 AD. Ake also used the Seleukid Era to date some of it’s earlier coins, in which case this would be dated to 109/8 BC. In neither case is this type recorded.
