Extremely Rare Vasudeva II Drachm

208, Lot: 157. Estimate $100.
Sold for $160. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

INDIA, Kushan Empire. Vasudeva II. Circa AD 290-310. Æ Drachm (18mm, 4.01 g, 11h). King standing facing, head left, sacrificing over altar and holding trident; filleted trident to left, Brahmi “Kidara”(?) to inner left, Brahmi “Vasu” to outer right / Siva, nimbate, standing facing, holding diadem(?) and trident; in background, the bull Nandi standing left. MK 1025 (Vasudeva III); Donum Burns -. VF, dark brown patina. Extremely rare, only a single specimen cited in MK.

With Vasudeva II, the coinage becomes immobilized. While the outer right of the obverse retains the “Vasu” in Brahmi, the inner right could feature the “Kidara” monogram, making this a Hunnic issue.
