INDIA, Kushan Empire. Magra. 4th century AD. AV Dinar (19mm, 7.86 g, 12h). Magra standing facing, head left, sacrificing over altar and holding standard surmounted by
chakra (wheel); filleted trident to left, Brahmi “Ma” and “Ga” to right / Ardoxsho seated facing, holding filleted investiture garland and cornucopia; tamgha to upper left. MK 578 (“Usurper I”). Good VF. Extremely rare.
Magra is known only from his coins. The depiction of a staff surmounted by a “chakra” in place of the usual banner suggests a link to the Kacha type of the Gupta king Samudragupta.
