KINGS of THRACE. Lysimachos. 305-281 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.06 g, 6h). Alexandria Troas mint. Struck circa 297-281 BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, spear behind; monograms to inner left and in exergue. Thompson 157; Meadows,
Earliest 14 (uncertain dies). Good VF. Fine style portrait.
Renamed by Lysimachos, Alexandria Troas maintained a steady output of coinage throughout his reign. The renaming from Antigoneia to Alexandria demonstrates Lysimachos’ desire to express eusebeia, dually honoring the memory of Alexander while obliterating the vestiges of former-ally Antigonus.
