KINGS of THRACE. Lysimachos. 305-281 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.98 g, 11h). Herakleia Pontica mint. Struck circa 288-281 BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, spear behind; monogram on throne; in exergue, club left. Thompson 178 (same obv. die). Good VF.
With the annexation of the province of Bithynia in 289 BC, Lysimachos received control over the mint cities of Herakleia Pontica and Kios, both strategic maritime locations. Both mints produced limited series for Lysimachos until the end of his reign, with Herakleia striking both staters and tetradrachms.
