INDIA, Gupta Empire. First Dynasty. Samudragupta. Circa AD 335-380. AV Dinar (7.56 g, 12h). Battle-axe type. Samudragupta standing facing, hand on hip, head left, holding battle axe; to left, attendant standing right, holding a crescent-topped standard; three pellets between figures / Lakshmi seated facing on backless throne, feet on lotus, holding diadem and cornucopia; tamgha to left. Cf. BMC Guptas Var. γ; cf. Alketar class I, variety A; Bayana variety A, 176 (same obv. die). VF, reverse slightly off-center, struck with worn and slightly rusty dies, edge marks from possible prior mounting. Very rare.
