Closing Date: Wednesday, 20 May 2009.
Sold For $900. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

LYDIA, Philadelphia. Tiberius(?). AD 14-37. Æ 15mm (2.94 g, 9h). TIBEPION TIB [EPION(?) or CEBACTON], bare head right / Thunderbolt. LS 24 (Tiberius Gemellus; same obv. die as illustration); RPC 3017/1 (same obv. die as illustration). Fine, black-green patina. Very rare.

From the D. Alighieri Collection.

The attribution of this coin is complicated by the celator’s recutting of the single obverse die used to strike this issue. While it is possible that the letter traces could read CEBACTON, RPC notes that this reading, as well as the identification with Tiberius, is uncertain.
