Caracalla. As Caesar, AD 196-198. AR Denarius (3.33 g, 6h). Contemporary imitation, pairing Rome mint issue obverse of Caracalla as Caesar with reverse of Septimius Severus. Bare-headed and draped bust of Caracalla right; blundered obverse legend / MVNIFICENTIA, elephant advancing right. For obverse type, cf. RIC IV 5 and RSC 594; for reverse type, cf. RIC IV 82 (Septimius) and RSC 348-9 (Septimius). VF, toned, porous, struck on a compact flan. Rare.
