Pottery jar. Pre-Urartian, 2nd millennium BC. Biconical jar with flared rim, reddish-brown slip, upper half painted with ornate geometric decoration of five panels, each with different design, in red and black over a cream ground. Each panel separated by a repeating pattern of vertical bands. Height: 21.5 cm. See Sotheby’s London December 1990, lot 55 for a very similar jar with birds incorporated into two of the geometric panels. Good condition, earthen deposits, areas of the rim restored.
