MESSENIA, Messene. Circa 191-183 BC. Æ Hemiobol or hexachalkon (7.66 g, 7h). Wreathed head of Demeter right / Zeus standing right, holding eagle on his outstretched arm, preparing to cast thunderbolt; ΞE to lower left, tripod to right. Grandjean 228 (D142/R194); BCD Peloponnesos 708. VF, rough brown patina, old inventory numbers 1568 and 87 written on edge in orange and white india ink. Rare.
