LAKONIA, Lakedaimon (Sparta). Circa 90-60/50 BC. AR Hemidrachm (2.33 g, 6h). Laureate head of Herakles right / Amphora between piloi of the Dioskouroi; Λ-A across central field, O and monogram to lower left, KH to lower right; all within wreath. Grunauer group VIII, series 16, 87 var. (V-/R80 [unlisted obv. die]); BCD Peloponnesos 874. VF, toned, obverse die wear.
Ex BCD Collection (not in LHS sale), purchased from S. Boutin, January 1976.
This coin may have been struck the same obverse die as Grunauer 87 (V54), but whatever die was used was apparently re-engraved before striking this coin.
