SELEUKID KINGS of SYRIA. Demetrios II Nikator. First reign, 146-138 BC. AR Drachm (17mm, 3.24 g, 12h). Tyre mint. Dated SE 169 (144/3 BC). Diademed and draped bust right / Eagle standing left on prow, palm frond over shoulder; monogram of Tyre to left, monogram between legs; to right, ΘΞP (date) above monogram. SC 1967.3 = Gorny & Mosch 52 (6 November 1990), lot 375 (same obv. die). Near VF, flan crack, cleaning scratches. Extremely rare.


Drachms of Demetrios II Nikator are extremely rare, with only four examples recorded in SC. This is possibly the second known example of this type.
