From the Luparello Collection.

One of the oldest men to be elected Pope at the age of 78, Clement XII was given the task of undoing the economic ruin which had been created during the office of his predecessor, Benedict XIII, and his delegate, Niccolò Coscia. This economic reformation included the restoration of the lottery, the issuance of paper money, and the reduction of the weights of minor silver coinage. The financial success of these acts enabled him to commission many public improvements.
