212, Lot: 441. Estimate $75.
Sold for $87. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Constantine V Copronymus, with Leo IV. 741-775. Æ Half Follis (18mm, 1.96 g, 6h). Syracuse mint. Struck 751-775. Crowned and draped facing busts of Constantine and Leo; cross above, horizontal bar below; in exergue; [CIK´Λ(?)] / Crowned facing bust of Leo, holding cross potent on base; cross to right; large horizontal K below. DOC 20 var. (crowns not topped with crosses); SB 1569A. VF, green patina. Very rare.

From the D. Alighieri Collection.

All the references describe the reverse with a Λ below a horizontal line. As this is a half follis, it makes more sense to this cataloger that it is simply a large horizontal K below the bust.
