ISLANDS off THRACE, Thasos. Circa 463-449 BC. AR Stater(?) (20mm, 4.36 g). Satyr advancing right, carrying protesting nymph / Quadripartite incuse square. Cf. Le Rider,
Thasiennes 5; cf. SNG Copenhagen 1010-1. VF, porous.
An unusual piece struck on a thin and lightweight flan, with figures on the obverse that are comparable in size to those of staters. There is no indication that it is a fourrée stater (its thin flan accounts for the light weight and would have made it a poor counterfeit anyway).
