214, Lot: 1. Estimate $300.
Sold for $480. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

CELTIC, Eastern Europe. Uncertain tribe. Early 3rd century BC. AR Tetradrachm (27mm, 17.23 g, 6h). Imitating an "Amphipolis" mint issue of Alexander III ‘the Great’. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; tripod in left field. CNG 72, lot 13 (same dies); cf. Price 115 (for prototype). Good VF.

By virtue of its style, fabric, and weight, this Alexander imitation is certainly an early issue, probably struck during the first decades of the 3rd century BC.
