SICILY, Syracuse. Early Tyrannies. Circa 500-485 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.47 g, 7h). Charioteer driving quadriga right / Head of Arethusa left in incuse circle in center of quadripartite incuse square. Boehringer series II, - (V20/R13; unlisted die combination); SNG ANS 5; SNG Lloyd 1277 (same obv. die); Basel 423 = G. Giacosa, Uomo e cavallo sulla moneta greca (Milan: Edizione Arte e Moneta, 1973), pls. 8 and 9 (this coin). Good VF, toned. Well centered strike on an exceptionally broad flan, with an elegant head of Arethusa. Very rare.
