Trajan. AD 98-117. Æ Sestertius (32mm, 27.36 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck circa AD 112-115. Laureate and draped bust right / VIA TRAIANA in exergue, the Via Traiana reclining left on rock outcropping, head right, holding wheel. RIC II 637. VF, green patina, some scratches.

The Via Traiana was a road running from Beneventum to Brundisium, serving as an important link between Rome and the East. Its construction was begun in 109 and completed in 113 at Trajan’s own expense.
