KINGS of MACEDON. Archelaos. 413-400/399 BC. AR Tetrobol (12mm, 1.97 g, 12h). Pella mint. Horse prancing left / Crested helmet left, within linear square. Westermark, Remarks 3; SNG ANS 71; SNG Alpha Bank 149-51. VF, some minor porosity.

Archelaos was responsible for moving the capital of the kingdom from Aigai to Pella. Stylistically, the horse and helmet are nearly identical to the light tetrobols of his predecesor, Perdikkas II, so it is likely the mint workers of Aigai were brought to the new mint. The diobol was the largest fractional silver piece of Archelaus' coinage.
