COMMAGENE , Zeugma. Antoninus Pius. AD 138-161. Æ 22mm (11.15 g, 12h). Laureate head right / Tetrastyle temple with peribolos containing grove of trees; B to right. Cf. SNG Copenhagen 28 (legends and numeral indistinct); BMC 1 var. (letter on rev.). Near VF, green patina, deposits.
From the D. Alighier collection.
Coins of Zeugma from the reign of Antoninus Pius feature numerals from A to Θ. Similarly, issues of Marcus feature numerals from A to Δ. These numerals could mark regnal years (although this would indicate minting occurred only during the early part of their reigns) or successive issues.
