SICILY, Mytistratus . Circa 340 BC. Æ Onkia (7.00 gm). Head of Hephaestus right, wearing pileus; pellet on pileus / MYT, three spoked wheel with central pellet. SNG ANS -; Calciati III pg. 294, 2; BMC Sicily pg. 116, 3; SNG Copenhagen -; SNG Morcom -; Laffaille -; Virzi 1280. EF, dark brown patina, reverse slightly off-center. Overstruck on a Syracusan litra, Athena/Hippocamp (Calciati II pg. 76ff), with just a trace of the undertype visible. Exceptional. ($750)
