The last Prince-Archbishop to rule over Salzburg in the feudal style, Leonhard von Keutschach was the son of Otto von Keutschach and Gertrud von Möderndorf. Promoted to canon of the church in 1490, he was elected to the city’s highest office five years later. A reformer of finances, he promoted trade while paying off old debts and increasing the production of the gold, silver, and salt mines, ultimately transforming Salzburg into one of the richest lands in the Holy Roman Empire.
