Born to Philippe IV and Jeanne de Navarre, Philippe V held the title of count of Poitou before his accession to the throne. Much of his domestic policy surrounded the restoration of the affairs and offices which had been revoked by his older brother, Louis X. Though having three daughters, he was unable to produce a male heir and, upon his death, was succeeded by his younger brother, Charles IV.
