SICILY, Syracuse. Circa 450-440 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.33 gm). Charioteer driving walking quadriga right, holding kentron in right hand, reins in both; Nike flying above and crowning horses, ketos right in exergue / SURAKOSI-ON, head of Arethusa right, wearing single-pendant earring and a necklace with a pendant, hair bound with a band wrapped around head three times; four dolphins around swimming clockwise. Boehringer 571 (V287/R391); SNG ANS 184 (same dies). EF, strike is a little flat on the high points, choice flan, light iridescent toning around Arethusa's head. One of the few obverse dies that clearly show the heads of all four horses. ($3000)
