THESSALY, Thessalian League. Circa 196-27 BC. AR Stater (20mm, 6.20 g, 12h). Nikokrates, Philoxenides, and Petraios, magistrates. Struck circa 44 BC. Head of Zeus right, wearing laurel wreath; NIKOKPATOYΣ / Athena Itonia advancing right; [ΦI]ΛOΞ-ENIΔ[OY] above spear, palm frond to outer right, ΠETPAIOΣ in exergue. McClean -; SNG Copenhagen 298. Good VF, toned, small area of flat strike in centers.
Nikokrates was thought to have been strategos shortly after 44 BC. If the Petraios on this issue is the same as the partisan of Caesar who was killed in 44 BC, then Nikokrates would have to have been strategos before that event.
