Lead One Pound Weight. Hellenistic, 2nd-1st centuries BC. Front face decorated with a series of large globules, that in the center surrounded by two concentric circles, the outer with a tang, creating a design resembling a phiale. Above, ΛEITPAN. Back face decorated with a floral pattern of six petals, three large globules above and below. Beveled sides featuring a zig-zag pattern. Dimensions: 8.7cm x 5.7cm.
The six-petaled floral pattern on the reverse is similar to the designs found on weights from the Cyclades (see the illustrations in J.F. de Rochesnard, Album des poids antiques, vol. 2, p. 40 and CNG 81/1, lot 1452).
