Extremely Rare Teres III Bronze

KINGS of THRACE. Teres III. Circa 350/47-341 BC. Æ (21mm, 14.34 g, 9h). Labrys, the handle in the form of a ‘T’ / Five grape bunches on vine within linear square; bee above, kerykeion to right, traces of what may be a third symbol to left. Peter -; Topalov 107 var. (kerykeion to left, no additional symbol); BMC -; SNG BM Black Sea -; SNG Stancomb -; SNG Copenhagen -; Traité -; cf. Lanz 147, lot 45 . Near VF, green patina. Extremely rare.


There are no symbols other than the kerykeion visible on the reverse of the specimen in Lanz, but they may simply be off the flan. That coin, slightly better than the current specimen, brought €400 before the buyer’s fee.
