The 1918 armistice was a humiliating moment for Germany. When France requested an armistice in 1940, Hitler felt that Germany had its revenge. He even went so far as to hold the meetings of June 22 in the same railway car as the 1918 negotiations, which was transported from a museum to the same site in the Compiègne Forest where the World War I armistice was signed. An official cease fire followed three days later on June 25.
