KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’. 336-323 BC. AV Stater (17mm, 8.57 g, 3h). ‘Amphipolis’ mint. Struck under Antipater, circa 330-320 BC. Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with serpent and necklace / Nike standing left, holding wreath and stylis; in left field, trident downward. Price 172; Troxell, Studies, series 1-2 (unlisted dies). VF.

Although the dies for this coin are not listed in Troxell, the style, with the hair of Athena swept back and the four bands peeking below the bust, is very similar to the many other dies she records.
