Sold for $225. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

CILICIA, Uncertain. Circa 333-323 BC. AR Obol (10mm, 0.71 g). Helmeted head of Athena right / Shield ornamented with thunderbolt. Göktürk 27-8 var. (no thunderbolt, B or BA on rev.); SNG France 476 (head of Athena facing slightly left) and 489 var. (no thunderbolt, B on rev); SNG Levante 119 (head of Athena facing slightly left) and 123 var. (no thunderbolt, B on rev.); SNG Levante Suppl. -; SNG von Aulock -. Near VF, light porosity, scratches, very minor deposits on reverse. Unpublished in the standard references.

Perhaps a transitional issue between the unsigned facing head coins with thunderbolt and the profile head issue lacking the thunderbolt and with the letters “B” or “BA” (=the Persian satrap Balakros).
