CAPPADOCIA, Caesarea-Eusebia. Claudius. AD 41-54. AR Didrachm (21mm, 7.48 g, 12h). Laureate head left / DE BRITANNIS in exergue, Claudius, holding reins and scepter, in triumphal quadriga right. Sydenham,
Caesarea 55; RPC 3625; RIC I 122. Near EF, toned. Rare.
The didrachm was introduced during the reign of Claudius. The reverse type portrays a powerful piece of political propaganda; namely, Claudius returning triumphantly from Britain.
