Eadgar. 959-975. AR Penny (1.64 gm). Post-reform issue, circa 972-975. York mint. Sidumann, moneyer. + EADGAR REX ANGLORX (OR ligate), diademed bust left / + SEDEMAN M-O EORFOR, small cross pattée. North 752; BMC Anglo-Saxon II -; Seaby 1141. Lightly toned, good VF, reverse surfaces a little porous. Choice portrait. ($1500)

Eadgar reformed the coinage in 973, initiating a standard type with the king's portrait on the obverse and the mint and moneyer's name on the reverse.
