For use by the 'Company of Merchants of London trading into the East Indies'. These coins, struck in denominations of 1,2,4 and 8 testerns, were a very short-lived attempt to devise a currency for the East India trade in competition with the Spanish reales. The coinage was unsuccessful in displacing the Spanish and quickly disappeared.
