Presented to officers ranking captain and higher, this medal commemorates the successful naval endeavors against the Dutch in 1665. The intensifying quarrels between rival merchants in England and Holland culminated with a decisive English victory under the command of the Duke of York, Prince Rupert, and the Earl of Sandwich near Lowestoft.
